I have compiled just a few succinct articles that are useful information for all of us who wish to enjoy good health:

WALK ON WITH THE WALK ON…

Can you imagine that there is something that is free of cost and fun to do that can be of so much benefit? That "something" is WALKING!

Before I even try to convince you of the health benefits in walking, I must impress upon you the importance of FIRST buying good "walking shoes." During the time that I lived in Egypt for eight months, I walked just about every single day. But I did not have the proper shoes, and as a result, I had serious problems with my feet for many months. You do not want to make this same mistake. With so many people walking and jogging these days, just about any store that sells name-brand sneakers can advise you of exactly which shoes are good for this sport.

The first time that I became a serious walker, about ten years ago, I walked for one hour, four to five times a week. I was also on and off a diet at the time. I did this for about five to six months and lost about thirty pounds and was looking very good, as I had not only lost weight but inches, as well. Hmmm, it seems that I was looking so good that I stopped walking, and of course, the food returned and so also did the weight. While in Egypt in 1999, I also walked, but I did not stay with a diet as much as I should have, but I did manage to lose some weight.

I like walking quite a lot and for several reasons. When I’m serious about it, I take my "Walkman" with me and step to the beat. The pace is very fast and the music is definitely swinging. Other times, I just want to meditate, and there is no better time to do so than when walking if you live in a house with significant others. However, there is also much benefit in walking with someone or with a group. If you’ve never walked, then you just can’t imagine how invigorating "walking" can be. This sport is the best boost to your metabolism and morale ever. I am a witness. And I must get back into action and shape! By the way, one need not walk so swiftly for this routine to be of benefit. Research has found that daily walks for even twenty minutes, four times a week are also healthy for us. I am just a creature in need of immediate gratification.

Below are a few ideas that I hope will encourage us all to get with a walking-exercise program and a more healthy diet… Eliminating sweets, fried foods, and fast foods can be a first step!

WALKING MAKES EATING RIGHT EASIER

Everyone knows that exercise helps you shed pounds by burning calories. But did you know that it may also help you eat healthier? Research show that individuals who exercise at least 3 hours a week tend to stick with a more balanced diet. Here’s why:

1. You’ll think twice before overindulging. You won’t want to negate all the calories you just worked off. For example, a large serving of french fries will undo more than 5 miles of walking.

2. You can eat more and still lose weight. Instead of eating 500 fewer calories a day to lose a pound a week, you’ll only have to cut back by 200 calories a day if you’re exercising off the other 300.

3. Exercising feels better than eating. Eating sugary food will likely make you feel sluggish, whereas you’ll get an energy burst from power walk. Exercise can also improve your skin, boost your stamina, and increase your confidence, among other things.

FIND THE BEST SPEED FOR YOU

Should you walk faster than you do now? Slower? "It depends on your goal," says Susie Kania, an exercise physiologist at Cooper Wellness Program in Dallas.

• For general health and well-being (keeping your heart healthy, relieving chronic aches and pains, and improving your mood), accumulate 30 minutes a day at a moderate to brisk pace most days of the week. To achieve this speed, pretend you’re in a bit of a hurry to get where you’re going. This can include walking on your errands, taking the stairs, or other daily activities.

• For weight loss, you need to burn more calories - picking up the pace, increasing the distance, or both. Try including hills, adding speed-walking intervals, or jogging a little during your daily workout. Or stick with your usual pace but increase your time to 45 to 60 minutes at least 5 days a week.

• For stress reduction, aim to walk every day for half an hour, but make it a stroll with your spouse or the dog - and enjoy the scenery.

Even if you have a goal, your focus for each exercise session could change depending on how you feel, adds Kania. If you want to lose weight, for example, but you’ve had an exhausting day, an easy jaunt may be just what the doctor ordered.

EDITORIAL PERSPECTIVE:

WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?

"But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there."

Nehemiah 1:9

For well over 2,000 years, Our GOD has been waiting for us to return to HIM according to HIS Ordinances and Precepts. And of a truth, I could say that in some respects, many of us are half way home. We acknowledge wholeheartedly our true identity, speak Hebrew, wear Hebrew garb, sport beards and locks, and naturals, and even profess GOD’s Law. We declare GOD’s Holy Sabbath, and some of us even keep it, as well as HIS other Holy Days.

But that major decision, that most important step that is so necessary to take that will make an Exodus a reality seems to elude us. If we are to put total fear in Our GOD to keep HIS Laws, Statutes, and Judgments and have total faith in HIM, we must, without a doubt, believe that HE is with us, and then we must now Exodus and "flee" from the lands that took us into captivity. Unfortunately, this "Second" Exodus spoken of in Scripture is something we just can’t muster up the courage to fulfill. Could it be that some people feel that "they" are not ready yet? I hear all the time that "I am going to wait on GOD." Or is it that some people simply fear making the move. Well, take a look at this:

"For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished." Jeremiah 30:10,11

Whatever the reason, just keep in mind that it’s only the obedient who will be the Remnant that will be saved, i.e., those of us who are not only obedient to GOD’s Law, but those of us who take heed to GOD’s Commands. If Lot had not been obedient to GOD’s Word to get out of Sodom, then he and his family would have been destroyed with it. Our Merciful GOD is again telling those HE loves to "flee," but this time it’s concerning "Babylon."

"The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vegeance of his temple." Jeremiah 50:28

Now, of course we know that this second Exodus (Jeremiah 16:14,15) won’t be like the first. Only a Remnant of Israel will be saved. No doubt, it will be those who know the value of fearing GOD and being obedient to HIS Word that HE has left for us for this latter day.

"The LORD said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction." Jeremiah 15:11

"And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call." Joel 2:32

O please don’t get me wrong; much to my dismay, everyone who leaves the lands of our captivity will not be saved. Some will be instruments for trying those of us who seek YIHOVAH. Some of us will bind GOD’s Covenant in our hearts and will not be moved. And you can bet, that just as our GOD tried the Nation of Israel in the Wilderness, HE will again do the same thing. Our GOD will prove us just as HE proved the Nation of Israel down in Egypt.

"And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD." .Ezekiel 20:35 - 38

"And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not." Exodus 20:20

"And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no." Deuteronomy 8:2

For all the above reasons, I pray daily that the Holy ONE will join me with Brothers and Sisters who will have the desire and goal to seek after Our GOD of Israel and Keep HIS Law ONE Way - GOD’s Way.

Finally, I feel that it’s necessary to add that those who honor the Most High GOD with their mouths and who have hearts far from HIM (Isaiah 29:13) might be able to fool the people, but they won’t be able to fool the Most High GOD, and HE will protect those of us who truly desire to keep HIS Law in Righteousness. You see, the All-Mighty GOD of Israel looks at the heart no matter what the body is wearing and no matter what the mouth speaks. Once I asked a man why he would not keep GOD’s Law when HE knew that this is what GOD wanted us to do. He said, in essence, that he knew he wouldn’t be worshipping GOD in Righteousness, so he didn’t want to play games with HIM. Although this man chose to be rebellious, he made a wise decision.

"Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do nonour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:" Isaiah 29:13

"But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him; for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." I Samuel 16:7

"Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness." Psalm 30:4

Let those who are chosen to be leaders in Israel come forth and be courageous and in the fear of the All-Mighty GOD of Israel, do HIS Will in Righteousness, and be the "he goats before the flocks." We must get our hearts right with Our GOD so we can do that for which we were formed, and that is show forth the Praises of Our GOD of Israel in Righteousness (Isaiah 43:21).

To do HIS Will and follow HIS Ways, so that "we," HE will not condemn.

After seeing HIS Miracles down in Egypt that amazed all the People,

The whole multitude and HIS Chosen Ones still weren’t convinced by their brains so feeble.

Saved them did Israel’s GOD out of bondage and from the Egyptian,

And took them into the Wilderness to safety for HIS Exaltation.

The Israelites and surrounding Nations were all made aware,

That the GOD of Abraham loved HIS People and their enemies HE did not spare.

All that this GOD of Hosts wanted, demanded, and did require,

Was that HIS People Israel would keep HIS Charge and to HIS Law aspire.

This All-Mighty GOD in the Wilderness promised them Canaan Land,

To give it to them and their Seed by HIS Mighty Hand.

If only these children of Jacob had just done GOD’s Will,

To cleave to HIM, fear HIM, and forever HIS Book fulfill.

Unfortunately, things did not work out as GOD had planned,

This Nation of Israel grew skeptical and became a rebellious clan.

When came time for the Israelites to enter into the Land of Milk and Honey,

The Spies confirmed that there was fruit flowing aplenty.

But they also raised fears concerning overtaking the territory,

So quickly they forgot the Powerful GOD and Savior their deity.

And O was their caring and loving GOD of Abraham,

So angry and vexed that at them HE became a battering ram.

GOD punished HIS People for their not having faith and trusting in HIM,

And gave their elders forty years to die in a Wilderness so grim.

But that’s not the end of this sad, sad and depressing story,

This Nation of Israel still never learned to trust in their All-Mighty GLORY.

They inherited the Land of Canaan just as GOD had said,

But they weren’t there very long because by the inhabitants of the land they were led.

They soon forgot GOD’s Laws and all that was required of them,

These stiffnecked people became HIS proverbial unwanted gem.

They sinned and GOD saved them, but they sinned and sinned again,

Finally, their GOD cast them from HIS Land into their enemies’ hand.

Now, again we are in captivity and feeling great pain and suffering,

And it’s been millennia since Israel’s been saved from our enemies’ scorning.

But O so many thanks to Our GOD’s Merciful and Loving Kindness,

By fearing and seeking ONLY HIM, HE has removed our blindness.

He has left for us HIS Word in the Book of Jeremiah,

To "FLEE" and save our souls, so also it’s written in Zechariah.

Indeed these are troublous times for the Children of Israel,

And even our enemies are frightened at what GOD has revealed.

But will we listen this time to the instructions that GOD has left,

For those of us living today under our enemies bereft.

Yes, here we are still serving under yet another cruel ruling power,

Working nine to five, reaping little, and praying for help to our ONLY Savior.

Unbeknownst to many of us that HE already has left HIS Plan,

And that is that we must "FLEE" from this wicked, heathen land.

This time, how many of us will do as did Caleb and Joshua,

"The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.

"Therefore, I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

"And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land."

READING FOR THE SOUL…

AN ANALOGY OF REALIZING THE CONSEQUENCES OF

THE GOD OF ISRAEL COMMANDING

THAT HIS LAWS BE KEPT AND

MAN WILLFULLY CHANGING THEM

Earl knew because of the illness that had engulfed his body that he was near death. All his life he had reminded his children to be virtuous and had exhibited step-by-step exactly how they were to lead perfect lives. He told them to do specifically what he said without deterring from his teachings and not even to make the slightest change.

Being aware of the time that he should die, Earl called his six children to his bedside to remind them of all that he had stressed for the well-being of themselves and hopefully for others. Earl told them that each one would be allotted an endowment but only if they continued in the ways that he had taught them to live exemplary lives. Earl explained to his children that each one would receive a certain amount of money every month for as long as they followed his wishes. And that if they turned from this mode of virtue that they would lose all their inheritance - everything - and their names would even be removed from the family tree.

Each of Earl’s children promised that they would not spoil his name and would remember all that he had taught them and would never stray from the ways he had so lovingly instilled in them.

For a very short while, after Earl’s death, his children were true to their every word. However, they began to mingle and assimilate with people who did not share their beliefs. Unfortunately, family and friends caused them to disregard their father’s teachings. And eventually, after just three years, they each started listening to one uncle or aunt and then another and even friend and foe completely forgetting the promises they had made to their father.

Finally, each one had developed his/her own ideals of how Earl’s children should live their lives. They each explained how important it was for them to live like the majority of the people in their midst. Each one emphasized just how they would excel if they’d only go with the mainstream. And each one totally confused Earl’s offspring.

Although the children were completely bewildered, they listened and tried to make sense out of all that they were being told. And because they liked the attention, they were constantly finding ways that made them more popular and in control.

Eventually, Earl’s children had made all manner of drastic changes in their lives that were much different than the lifestyle they had led when their father was with them. Consequently, in only six years, they had lost everything - including their names.

Their father, Earl, had stipulated that an attorney follow them throughout their lives for six years and had told him that after this time, if they were no longer exemplary individuals according to his standards, then he should discontinue their legacy, have them disinherited, and have their names removed from all that represented Earl’s estate. The attorney was also told that if this unfortunate fate met with his children that the entire inheritance would go to him. The attorney became a very, very wealthy man.

Of course everything written above is pure fabrication, but it most certainly has merit in emphasizing exactly what took place with the Most High GOD of Abraham and HIS Chosen People, the Nation of Israel.

The GOD of Israel gave HIS Covenant People HIS Laws, Statutes, and Judgments to live and do forever in the Land of Canaan, the land HE gave them after saving them out of Egypt. The very explicit COMMANDMENTS were that they had to cleave to ONLY this GOD of Israel with their whole heart and soul, do what HE required of them, and they could not add to or diminish from these Righteous Ordinances. GOD also told them that if they did not follow HIS Ways that they would go into captivity in their enemies’ lands, and that HE "would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men" and the stranger would "be the head, and thou shalt be the tail." Our GOD did not lie!

Although we live in a World ruled by Gentiles due to our rebelliousness, unlike the ending to the above story, please realize that Our Merciful GOD of Israel has HIS Hand stretched out still (Isaiah 9:17). And HE is just waiting for us to return to HIM according to HIS Ways of Righteousness just so HE can once again bring us to our heritage.
