A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE LAWKEEPERS, CO.:

 ALL PRAISES TO THE HOLY ONE OF YISRAEL, YIHOVAH, OUR ELOHIM!

Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the highway, even the way [which] thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.

How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter? for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD bless thee, O habitation of justice, [and] mountain of holiness.

And there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all the cities thereof together, husbandmen, and they [that] go forth with flocks. Jer. 31:21-24

Shalom Le'Kol Yisrael,

The prophet Yermiyahu's prophecy concerning the return of the remnant of Yisrael in the 30th and 31 chapters and the Hebrew Scriptures themselves, provides for us today a record of how the Holy One orchestrates events to cause that remnant to return. Those with wisdom will understand. Of those that were taken captive to Babylon, I can only imagine how they felt considering what had happen to them being forced from off their own land and into the land of their captors. Yermiyahu was admonishing Yisrael to "Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the highway, even the way [which] thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities."

This is strong evidence and proof positive that Yisrael was not just to sit around and wait on the Holy One to swoop down and carry them back to their own land. There was no longer any reason for the remnant to remain in Babylon but to return to their own land to rebuild their cities. The Creator caused Cyrus to issue the decree to have our forefathers go up to Jerusalem to build the temple and, all who desired went up.

This passage also caused me to think about our situation today in the land of our captivity given the fact that many Yisraelites today feel now is not the time to return to our own land. They seem to be waiting on a sure sign that will confirm the Holy One will take them out of the lands of captivity and place them in the land this despite the fact that Deuteronomy 28 has overcome and overtaken them and they have called to mind both the blessings and the curses in these lands of captivity.

Yisrael, as the verse above said was as a "backsliding daughter" as the KJV puts it. Yermiyahu asked the question "How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter? " I pondered that passage of scripture and wanted to know what it really meant. Well the Holy One revealed to me that our forefathers played the harlot, we fell away from the law, went to doing all kind of destestable things and refused to hear "Thus saith the Lord." Jer 7.

"The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen [that] which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot." Jer 3:6

"Why [then] is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return." Jer 8:5

I hearkened and heard, [but] they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.

Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.

How do ye say, We [are] wise, and the law of the LORD [is] with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he [it]; the pen of the scribes [is] in vain.

The wise [men] are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom [is] in them?

Therefore will I give their wives unto others, [and] their fields to them that shall inherit [them]: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when [there is] no peace. Jer 8:6-12

Yisrael, today nothing has changed. Whether we realize it or not, attempting to only do the law in the land of captivity and not seeking to return to our land to do ALL the law it is like our not really believing that YHWH's Book of the Law is valid. If it is, then why are you still backsliding and refusing to return to the Holy One of Yisrael to do ALL OF THE LAW? Even a stork, turtle, and the crane and the swallow knows even when to return!

Instead of Yisrael here in America getting itself in order to return to home, we have more convocations and assemblies and conferences to discuss how to do the law in captivity.

We see the events transpiring in the land and consider ourselves safe in the lands of captivity.

Yisraelites who should know the Law speak and make reference to JC and the "spirit of the Law" and cause those of less knowledge and understanding to be ensnared and munipulated by the teaching of the NT which was designed to be Anti-Yah and promote the teachings of falsehood and myth. Just as Yermiyahu wrote: "I hearkened and heard, [but] they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle."

Why would Yermiyahu prophesy to Yisrael to: "set thine heart toward the highway" and "turn again to these thy cities"? Why would he even need to admonish them to return when they should have known about his prophesies concerning the ending of the 70 years captivity to Babylon? Jer 25 and Chp 29:1? What do you think? What can we Hebrew Yisraelites learn fron this today?

It was during the Medes and Persian empire that afforded Yisrael, particularly Yehudah the Law Giver to exist for a time in their own land even though the land of Yehudah was not in the control of Yehudah but Medo-Persia after the Babylonian captivity. This is born out by Ezra 6:14

"And the elders of Yehudah builded and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet Zechariah the son of Iddo."

"And they builded, and finished it,(the temple) according to the commandments of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia."

According to the book of Nehemiah, a time came were the nation again fell into sining again against the Holy One and the Priests, Chiefs were taking the lead. These conditions opened Yisrael to being driven from the land by the Greeks.

"The Children also of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have ye sold unto the Grecians, that ye might remove them far from their border." Joel 3:6.

The Holy One of Yisrael orchestrated the historical events that after the Prophet Malachi, the recording of our history (of which was recorded by Hebrew Ysraelites for and to Hebrew Yisraelites when we were still in our land, ceased. The Holy One ceased sending prophets to the nation of Yisrael and rejected the Levitical Preisthood. And what happen to the nation of Yisrael? We fulfilled the curses.

The Holy One is still waiting for us to return to our land to put in place the ordinances, precepts, commandments, judgements and statues that He gave to our forefathers in the wilderness. Isa:62 and 65, Ezekiel 34-39

The LawKeepers from its inception has always admonished Yisraelites to return to our land. The many articles of encouragement and enlightenment are solidly based on the Hebrew Scriptures which is our history. The Holy One left on record for us to consider His Words in this day also, and it has been our main concern to declare His Word and gather Torah based Yisraelites to come with us and build a community of Torah Yisraelite families in Jordan in particular.

Exactly how do you think the Holy ONE of Israel will recover a Remnant of HIS Chosen People from the four corners of this Earth?   Or is this important to you?

CARROT  BENEFIT

I used to tell my daughter that carrots make you pretty when she was little just to get her to eat them.  That worked very well.  There’s just something about little girls with that want to be pretty stuff, right?  And of course we were all told that carrots are good for the eyes, and then asked if you ever saw a rabbit wearing glasses.  Hmmm   Oh well…  Anyway, most of us know about the benefits in eating carrots, but I’ll bet you didn’t know that they are of this great a benefit to our health!!!   The following article is short but quite interesting and encouraging for keeping carrots among our food and drinks:

One really wonderful way to intake the nutrition of carrots is by drinking carrot juice.  After storing your carrots in the fridge, then prepare your juice.  Nothing beats it especially on a warm, sunny day.  Many people juice carrots and beets together.  That’s also delicious.   If you like carrot juice, then you might also like other freshly squeezed juices, as well.  And if you invest in a juicer, I have learned that the ones made in Germany are the best.  But then, ask around for your own enlightenment.

EDITORIAL PERSPECTIVE:

JUST ONE AND ONLY ONE WISH!

Have you ever sat and wrote a “Wish List” - things you wish in all your heart that you were able to do?  Well, I’m not one bit ashamed to say that I have and countless times, too, and all throughout my life.  I’d like to know how many Black Folks haven’t.  And if you are one of those who haven’t dreamed a little, well now’s your chance to do so.

Before determining this “one” wish stipulation, I thought about it for a while, and said to myself that I should make that “Three Wishes” because then you could hope for so much more with three wishes instead of just one.  I also thought that requesting you to make three wishes just sounded too much like a fairy tale, and I certainly didn’t want to do that.   Then, I thought, hey, why make it easy?!  So, here you have it: 

IF YOU HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO FULFILL JUST ONE WISH, WHAT WOULD IT BE?  Just remember that you are entitled to only make “ONE” wish!  And no fair making your one wish a thousand wishes, either!!!

Would you wish to win the lottery?  Hey, it certainly crossed my mind, and you had better believe that I could use that money!  Would you heal the sick?  We all know someone who is sick either in our immediate family or a close friend.  Would you bring back a dead loved one:  friend or relative?   One of my closest and best friends passed away about five years ago, and I think about her all the time.  Or would you just be happy with enough money to pay off all your bills?  Think about it for about five minutes before you respond…

Now, have you decided what you’d make your “One Wish?”

I, personally, would not go with any one of the above.  I wish to be joined with Hebrew Israelites who truly desire to return home and keep GOD’s Laws in Truth and in Righteousness.   This is my wish, and I’ll tell you why.  But first, notice that I didn’t wish that Brothers and Sisters would come home.  That would have been wasting a wish, as their coming home is a given.   Albeit, too many Israelites are already home but are doing nothing to show forth GOD’s Praises and fulfill prophecy.  And this is exactly why my wish involves being joined with Hebrew Israelites who wish to return home to keep GOD’s Laws in Righteousness.  If it’s in our hearts, then we will gladly do what YIHOVAH expects of us.

I feel my wish has merit, all because we have but one more chance to get right with Our GOD of Israel, and we can’t afford to waste any time in doing so, and we can’t continue to reject HIM and HIS Law, either.   Some of us, Israelites, will without a doubt be the precious ones to make this wish a reality, and the sooner the better.   Positive and honest role models are what we need involved in this mission.

At every turn, we witness wickedness, personally, or in the media and in the newspapers.   Unfortunately, we live in that kind of World, and it’s full of people who look out for their own gain.  And then there are those who would just be too happy to see the Righteous Remnant turn to abominations or any manner of unrighteousness.  Some people don’t want to see folks succeed or strive for Righteousness.  Also some of us are just too caught up in the rat race and in our own selfish desires to have quality time for the GOD of Israel.  And, that’s too bad, because far too many of us have no concept of what it is to serve and worship the Most High GOD of Israel HIS Way and couldn’t care less.  Some folks know in their hearts that they are lost and condemned, and they have a major objective to take others down with them.   And truth be told, only the wise, strong, and disciplined will survive the “troubles” of Jacob during these perilous and trying times.  Yes, indeed, I knew well what I was doing in making my wish.

While people are waking up to the GOD’s Truth, we also have as many people with knowledge of this Truth, but in pursuit of evil and wicked agendas that have nothing to do with the Holy ONE of Israel.  One minute some HEBREW ISRAELITES are talking about the GOD of Israel and that we must keep HIS Law, and in the same breath talking about magnifying JC and using the “New Testament.”  Folks, we must be circumspect and be able to discern between that which is right and wrong IN GOD’S SIGHT.  And it’s just as important for us to be very cautious in our associations with others, i.e., where our Spirituality is concerned.  For that reason, I wish to be joined with Hebrew Israelites who truly wish to return home and keep GOD’s Laws in Truth and in Righteousness.   We have a job to do, and we’re late doing it!!!

“And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.

”Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things:  this is known in all the earth.” 

Isaiah 12:4,5

How in the World will we be able to “make mention that HIS Name is exalted” and that “HE hath done excellent things” if we don’t come together in Righteousness under GOD’s Law to prove to the World that Our GOD is GOD and is capable of causing HIS People to return to their heritage?!   YIHOVAH always, always used HIS People to show forth HIS Praise and in the process HE caused the Nations to be in awe of HIM.   Let us not forget HIS show of power, might, and divinity in Egypt.

I’m sure that some of you are asking, “But what about these people getting home?  You do want the Remnant to be returned as was prophesied, right?”   If so, why didn’t you wish that the Remnant would be returned?

Of course I do!  The Holy ONE of Israel made us many, many promises.  And HE has just about kept them all, to my knowledge, with the exception of returning HIS People to their land, fulfilling HIS “New Covenant” (Jeremiah 31:31 - 34), and causing all surviving Nations on this planet to Exalt and acknowledge HIM as the ONLY True and Living GOD.  And all of this HE will accomplish, as well.  Just think about it:  YIHOVAH promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that HE would make their Seed HIS Chosen People and that HE would give them the Land of Canaan.  YIHOVAH did not lie; HE did it.  HE also told HIS Chosen People while they were in the land that they would go into captivity in Gentile lands as captives and be the tail and their enemies the head (Deuteronomy 28th Chapter) if they did not keep HIS Law.  Well, our forefathers didn’t keep HIS Law, and we are most definitely the tail and our enemies the head.  And in addition to that, we are captives in their lands.  Again, HE did not lie.  

I have very good reason to believe that another prophecy to rejoin HIS Chosen People with their/our heritage will manifest ever so swiftly, and as soon as the Righteous Remnant is established to represent YIHOVAH, introduce HIM to this evil World, and establish HIS Righteous Kingdom on this Earth.  But understand me; before Israelites return to their heritage, they must have a desire to go home.  The seed of desire to go home must first be planted in the mind and heart before the act takes place.   We don’t act without a reason.  We act out of desire, and this ideal must bear heavily in our actions, our prayers, and our thoughts before YIHOVAH makes us realize that we are serious, and that this is what we really and truly want.  We have to want to make our desires a reality, and then at all costs, we will fulfill them.  

My People, believe me, PLEASE BELIEVE ME!!!  Once we are joined together WITH A DESIRE FOR  ABSOLUTE RIGHTEOUSNESS according to GOD’s Book of the Law, there is no limit to what Our Merciful GOD will do for us.  I know what all HE has done for me, and I am but one individual appealing to HIM night and day NOT to prolong the days but to establish us as HIS Holy People, a Nation to be reckoned with in our endeavors to represent HIM and show forth HIS Praises before the World according to HIS Truth and ONLY HIS Truth!  Don’t you know yet that Our GOD is waiting on us, and that HE is looking for those who are worthy to serve HIM?!!!

“For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

“And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

“And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.”   Ezekiel 36:24,27,28

There is no telling what all those of us who are strong in GOD’s Law can accomplish if we would just come together and “prove” the Holy ONE of Israel and hold HIM to HIS Word to establish HIS Righteous Ones in our own lands for HIS Sanctification and for HIS Glory for ever.   But if we are hemming and hawing and dragging our feet, then we can forget about it!

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”   Malachi 3:10

It’s been a very long time since we have magnified Our GOD in Righteousness – a very long time.  But know that the Holy ONE wants us to serve HIM at home, in the land – not in our enemies’ lands:

“For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel all of them in the land serve me:  there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.”   Ezekiel 20:40

So now, what was your wish?

Poetry With A Message:

LET ME WORSHIP YOU IN YOUR HOLY TEMPLE!

Once when I went with a friend to her place of heathenish idol worship,

I saw what appeared and I thought to be grand and impressive fellowship.

I looked in awe at the images of people in this place,

And marveled at the “man” called “God” to see his face.

This manly image of “God” stood out above all the rest;

He smiled with outstretched hands exhibiting his very best.

People kneeled to this idol and made motions that he did not acknowledge;

He never moved or responded, and I wondered if he were a sacrilege.   Although I thought this place to be exactly what I wanted,

I felt deep down in my soul that the GOD in heaven interceded.

“To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?

“They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god:  they fall down, yea, they worship.” 

Isaiah 46:5,6

“Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen:  that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he:  before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.”  

Isaiah 43:10

“Fear ye not, neither be afraid:  have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it?  Ye are even my witnesses.  Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.”

Several years passed and curious I was more and more

To know GOD’s Truth and all that HE did abhor.

I asked many questions about GOD, and the answers were always the same,

Put your belief and faith in this “man” and salvation I could then claim.

But I had seen the people who served and worshipped him,

And I saw nothing that made me want to be like them.

But I still kept a picture of this “man” with hopes to find

The Truth of the matter and answers that would unblind.

Then, from a lack of knowledge and fulfillment, I decided enough of this “man”

For I needed much more than a pasted smile and a cold cemented hand.

GOD made me to understand that faith in this runaway “man”

Who stood a mere poised statue was not at all in HIS Righteous Plan.

“And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you.

“And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

“But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”  

Deuteronomy 4:27 – 29

“…thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and…obey his voice, and …cleave unto him:  for he is thy life, and the length of thy days:  that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Finally, to my rescue came the True and Living GOD;

HE showed me HIS Truth and opened my eyes in a way that was quite odd.

A man who himself did not fear GOD and believe,

Shared GOD’s Word with me and all that he did perceive.

Strange as it was, through him I learned to know the Most High,

And that HE chose Israel a People who are the apple of HIS Eye.

I found out through reading GOD’s Fascinating Book of the Law

That it is to be kept “for ever;”  that’s exactly what I saw!

This GOD that created the Heavens and the Earth

Is not at all like a “man” of stone but has much more untold worth!

True, HE cannot be seen, touched, or duplicated,

But better than a statue or a picture, HE can be stimulated.

“THESE are the statutes and judgments, which ye shall observe to do in the land, which the LORD God of thy fathers giveth thee to possess it, all the days that ye live upon the earth.”  

Deuteronomy 12:1

“O that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!”  

Deuteronomy 5:29

“Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall

search for me with all your heart.”

All HE asks is that we keep HIS Laws, Statutes, and Judgments,

Fear HIM, love HIM and be obedient without abandonments.

Since finding My GOD, I seek HIM with my whole heart

To do HIS Will and never from HIS Paths and Law to depart.

Because I have chosen to believe, hope, and trust in ONLY this GOD of Israel

HE has been with me without fail and opened HIS Law for me to reveal.

He showed me many signs to make me know HE exists,

And now I am HIS Servant and to HIM forever to assist.

I share with My People, Israel, all that My GOD shows me,

And it’s all straight from HIS Law, as you will plainly see.

Never could I forsake this All-Mighty GOD and Creator,

For HE has led me to learn of HIS Righteousness that changed my behavior.

“And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known:  I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight.  These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

“They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.”

“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried:  he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

And do what my forefathers wouldn’t that was all so very simple.

I want to see the Priests, the Levites milling about,

Doing ministry to and for GOD as HE ordained throughout.

LORD, let me witness your Glorious Cloud over the Congregation,

Representing your Presence and assent of your Sanctification.

Let me hear the musicians as they play many instruments for THEE,

And let me rejoice in happiness with all people in righteous glee.

I want to sing in your Holy Temple songs of Thanksgiving

For YOU yet choosing Israel and being enduringly forgiving.

I want the Strangers and the remaining Nations to also worship YOU in Truth,

And feast with the Nation of Israel in Peace at the time of dwelling in Booths.

O LORD GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,

I want to experience the real beauty of worshipping YOU, the All-Mighty GOD and Creator, in Truth – Your Glorious and Righteous Way!

Heavenly Father of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, you saved the Children of Israel out of Egypt and at that time showed the World your Power and Greatness.  Just one more time save us from this bondage that has us once again in the grips of our enemies who also hold us fast and refuse to let us go.  Recover Your People, LORD GOD of Abraham from the four corners of the Earth, as you have promised and cause all Nations to know that the GOD of Israel yet exists!  Show yourself, GOD of Israel, and let the evil and wicked Rulers of this polluted Earth realize your Wrath and again learn to fear and know your Truth. 

Save us, LORD GOD of Hosts, and fulfill your Words to your Prophets and to King David regarding his Seed to sit on the throne in your Holy Temple in Jerusalem when it is re-established.  Don’t prolong the days, Heavenly Father of Abraham, but make haste to forgive us for our many horrible sins against YOU.  And then proceed quickly to Deliver us and establish your Kingdom on this Earth.  Hurry, LORD GOD, so that we not be caught up in the dreadful ills and great sins of this Gentile World System!  YOU Alone are the Savior of the Nation of Israel, and I await and look to you for Redemption and restoration to our heritage.

If you are like me, then you love to read.  Not only do I take great pleasure in reading, but I enjoy writing stories, as well.  For the next few weeks, I shall be including parts of a short story that I wrote several years ago.  The name of this story is entitled Exodus.  Feel free to copy it for your children.

SECOND ENTRY

 

     "You, too, mama?" asked Maggie in amazement.

     "No, pretty girl.  I'm just making a joke.  I'm very proud of being Black.  Yes, we have our problems, but somehow, I believe that we, as a people, will rise above them all.  How, I just don't know."

     If only those Blacks with money would learn from these white Jews, maybe then my child wouldn't be wishing she was White.  If only my people would invest in areas that would raise black pride and awareness to encourage Blacks to be the market rather than just go to the market.   Hattie even thought about Black Americans with their skills and technology uniting with their African brothers to utilize the natural resources on that continent in order to become a powerful force that would enable all Blacks to get the respect they are due from all peoples in the world.

     Hattie had not heard Maggie's reply to her question, so she asked her again.  "Honey, why do you want to be a white Jew?"

     "Mama, I've been telling you, and you haven't heard a word I've said." 

     "I'm sorry, Maggie.  Please, tell me again."

     "Mama, I might be young, but I see a lot that's going on in this country, and it makes me very sad.  Why do black people have to be poor?  And it's not just some of us it's almost all of us.  Why does God allow this to happen? The white man rules the whole world and black people have no power whatsoever.  Even in Africa, the Blacks there are struggling to be an industrial continent.  Mama, what have we done for God to curse us so?"

     Hattie hadn't realized that Maggie was so aware of the plight of Blacks in America.  "What do I tell such an inquisitive child as this, Lord?" thought Hattie to herself.  It's true, my people are only seat warmers and servants in this country, and it seems we'll always be third class citizens. 

     "Honey, what you're saying is true, and you ask very good questions.  But I don't have the answers.  I wish I did.  I wish I could satisfy your curiosity and my own as well," said Hattie.

     Changing the subject, Hattie asked Maggie what she wanted for dinner.

     "You mean I get to plan the menu tonight, mama?" she squealed.

     "Yes, dear, so long as it's not too expensive.

     "All right," exclaimed Maggie.  "I want some hamburgers, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, and pizza," she said with a big bright smile on her face.

     "Maggie, Maggie, Maggie.  What am I going to do with you?  How about some hamburgers and beans?" she asked pleadingly.

     "Gee, mama, well, all right," she said in a not so enthusiastic tone of voice.  "It was fun dreaming for a while, anyway."

     As Hattie hurried with the shopping, she pondered over everything Maggie had said.  She even thought about what Thomas had said about his friend being a Hebrew.  Hattie didn't know anything about Black Hebrews or why Blacks are so poor, but she knew her son and daughter had certainly given her an earful this day.

C H A P T E R    2

     "Hi, love," said Hattie with a peck on the cheek.  "I know you're tired.  So wash up, and I'll have your plate waiting for you when you come out."  Hattie was glad that it was Thursday and nearing the end of the week, as Saturday and Sunday were the only two days she and James could spend any significant time together.  Hattie hated that her husband had to work so hard.  One job just wasn't enough, so James opted to take a part-time position at the gas station. 

     "God, good men are hard to find, and you blessed me with one who is caring and concerned about his family.  Please, please don't let anything happen to him.  He works so hard for us to make ends meet.  Take care of him.  I love him so much."

     "Aw now, don't you look better, you handsome thing you.  How was work?"

     "It was all right.  Where are the kids?" asked James and replied, "It sure is quiet in here."

     "After dinner, they asked if they could go to the Center and watch E.T..  Since it was free, and they had finished all their homework, I gave them my permission.  And guess what else?" Hattie said with a smile.  Jonathon had a basketball game this afternoon, and he told me all about it."

     "Oh yeah, who won?" asked James.

     "Your son, of course.  That wasn't nice of me.  His team won. They won 125 to 90.  Jonathon made 50 of those points.  We should have been there, James.  It would have made him really proud to have both his parents at his game."

     "That's my boy.  I wish we could have all been there making all kindda noise every time he scored.  Gee, I'm proud of that kid.  I want him to do everything I couldn't.  But I want him to be a big somebody.  'Lord, just let him stay away from drugs and crime.'"

     "Gee, honey, I don't think we ever have to worry about that. Eat up cause the kids will be here any minute bugging you, and then your food will get cold."

     "We got a new man on the job a few days ago, and I've been training him on the machines and on the assembly lines.  He's interesting.  He says he's a Hebrew.  Now, don't that beat all?  A Black Hebrew."

     "Well, I'll be," said Hattie with amazement.  "Thomas came in today ranting and raving about a new student in his class named Mi-cha-something-or-other which means Michael in English.  He wants to have the boy over to play.  I told him we had to find out about him and his family first."

     "Baby, if this is Jacob's son, I'm not worried about the boy at all.  Like I said, the man's interesting, and he hates that our people are so into drugs and won't come together to better themselves.  During lunch, my man reads his Bible while the rest of us play cards.  He's only been there three days, and I'm highly impressed with him and with his philosophy, too.  Ha!  I had to ask him why he called himself a Jew.  He showed me some passages in the Bible that I had never seen before.  These scriptures made sense and answered a lot of questions, but can these answers be true?  Jacob, that's the man's name, said that we were brought over to this land on slave ships for punishment for not keeping God's laws.  He also showed me in the Bible where God said that if we return to His laws that He'd return us to our own land.  Deuteronomy 30th chapter.  I can't recall scriptures, but I made it a point to remember that one.  And I'll tell you something.  If this man is wrong then we have nothing to worry about.  On the other hand, if what he's been saying is true, then I think we'd better take heed.  Somehow I know that there is a God, and that he did not mean for black people to always be oppressed.  I asked Jacob when God was going to send for his people.  I wasn't being funny, baby.  I was as serious as a heart attack.  I'm just tired.  Your husband is tired of living like this.  If being a Black Jew is better than this life I now live, then baby, we're going to be obedient Black Jews."

     "Honey, what are you saying?"

     "Baby, the church has been here for hundreds of years and has had no impact on hypocrites, Christians, believers, or non- believers.  Christians teach that you have to be a believer in Christ who, by the way, couldn't save himself much less the world.  Jacob showed me in the Bible where Moses wanted to die for the sins of Israel.  God told him, no, and made it plain that the soul that sinned shall die.  So how can Jesus die for anybody's sin.  Actually he should have stayed around.  Maybe then he would have been more successful with his followers.  Jacob told me that before God cast the Children of Israel from their land, that he rarely left his people for too long a period of time without a prophet.  No doubt, he knew that they'd create some kind of false god.

     "I've never told you what I'm about to say, but I've never had any faith in the church.  It's the biggest ripoff the world has ever known.  And that, I don't need anyone to tell me.  Once, when I was a kid, I had gotten a picture of Jesus from somewhere and set it on the table next to my bed.  I used to talk to this picture, and God knew I wasn't playing any games.  I was serious.  For some reason, all kinds of negative things started happening to me.  And I couldn't understand it.  Here I was trusting in this Son of God, and while the trust was coming from my heart, I started having all kinds of problems like arguing with my parents over nothing, getting blamed for things I didn't do.  Humph, I told myself that I was better off without that picture.  Don't ask me what I did with it.  I really can't remember.  But, I did get rid of it, and things did get better.  I've always wondered about Christian concepts.  Baby, that's why I never encouraged you and the kids to go to church."

     "I always thought you were too tired and needed the rest.  But tell me, when is this great God of the Hebrews supposed to send for his people?"
