“Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:  That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy sons and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.  Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.”   Deuteronomy 6:1 - 3

“O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord.”

EXALTATION OF THE MOST HIGH GOD OF ISRAEL:

Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

Behold, as th eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

Psalm 123:1,2

If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;

“If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made haven and earth.”

HINTS FOR HARDY, HEALTHY HEBREWS:

After we reach a certain age, we can easily start to gain weight and cause any number of health problems, especially if we do not eat properly, have no time to exercise, and spend endless hours sitting at the computer every day.  And considering the “Public Enemy Number 1,” everyone, teenagers, fast-food junkies, and adults of all ages just might want to consider reading the following article:

PUBLIC ENEMY NO. 1

By Lana Kalimat Siraj

CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE is the number one killer of both men and women.  Every day this disease kills thousands of people.  It results from a complex interplay between genes and environment and can strike anyone from a couch potato to an athlete.

Several risk factors were identified over the years, the major ones being elevated blood cholesterol levels, triglycerides, smoking, stress, high blood pressure, diabetes, a sedentary life-style, and elevated blood homocysteine level – an amino acid synthesized in our bodies from other amino acids available in animal proteins, such as meat, milk and eggs.

Genetics plays a small part in determining who gets heart diseases; lifestyle and dietary habits largely determine this process.  Herein lies the tragedy, as for the overwhelming majority, heart disease is preventable.  We have control over our body and can decide how healthy we want it to be.  No matter how old one is, it is never too late for a healthy beginning.

Let me tell you how:

1.      Stop Smoking:  Smoking and heart disease go hand and hand.  If you are serious about leading a healthy life, you have no choice but to quit smoking.

2.      Shed the excess weight:  Being more than 20 per cent over your ideal body weight increases your risk of heart disease.  Choose a healthy way to get rid of those extra kilos.

3.      Exercise:  Besides making your heart stronger, exercise cuts the risk of heart disease in half.  Regular moderate exercise, such as brisk walk or swimming three to five times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes will lower your LDL (bad cholesterol), raise your HDL (good cholesterol) and help control hypertension and diabetes, another two risk factors in heart disease.  No matter how old, sick, or bored, there’s an exercise programme that’s right for you, so move on.

4.      Minimise stress:  Stress, anxiety and anger contribute to heart diseases in a mechanism yet unknown.  Measuring anger or stress isn’t as simple as measuring your blood cholesterol, body weight or blood pressure, yet research is full of evidence of its harm.  When a stressful life-style cannot be changed, few relaxation techniques like praying, yoga and meditation can be practiced to minimize that stress.

5.      Make few dietary adjustments:  Ideally, a healthy diet should consist of 55 per cent carbohydrates, 15 per cent protein and 30 per cent fat, distributed equally between polyunsaturated vegetable oils such as corn and sunflower oil, saturated animal fat and monounsaturated oils such as olive oil.

Changing bad dietary habits cannot happen overnight, gradual modifications can be achieved over time; the reward is outstanding.

Following are few dietary changes you can start with:

1.      Limit dietary cholesterol and saturated animal fat:  Animal fat is the main source of cholesterol in our diet.  Animal fat sources, such as ghee, solid shortening, red meat, eggs, whole-fat dairy products should be limited.

Fish, skinless chicken, skimmed or low-fat dairy products should be used instead.  Polyunsaturated fats such as corn, sun flower or soya oils can be used in cooking in moderate quantities not exceeding 10 per cent of your total daily caloric intake.

2.      Increase your intake of soluble fibre:  One of nature’s cheapest, fast acting and safe cholesterol fighting drugs is soluble fibre.  Oat flakes, muesli or oatmeal, all types of beans, such as kidney beans, white beans lentils, soybeans and chickpeas, fruits such as apples, oranges, and grape fruit, vegetables, such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and okra, are valuable sources of fibre.

Daily consumption of 4-6 oz. of beans and oats was proved to lower bad cholesterol by 20 per cent and increase good cholesterol by 9 per cent.

3.      Increase your intake of fatty fish:  Fatty fish, like salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel, is rich in omega 3 – fatty acids.  Regular intake of fatty fish in the daily diet lowers the triglycerides and increases the good cholesterol.

4.      Lower your homocysteine levels through proper diet:  Homocysteine, an amino acid synthesized in our bodies, was identified as a risk factor in heart disease in the last few years.

Adequate levels of Vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid are needed to break it down into harmless waste products, while a balanced diet, with small amounts of fish, chick, meat, milk or eggs and large amounts of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds will keep homocysteine synthesis at bay.

Increasing your dietary intake of folic acid can help lower your homocysteine levels.  Good sources of folic acid include leafy green vegetables, cereals, lentils, chickpeas, spinach and most beans.  If dietary changes are not enough to lower your homocysteine levels, B complex supplements are recommended.

5.      Increase your intake of garlic and onion:  Both raw and cooked, garlic was proved to suppress cholesterol syntesis by the liver; on the other hand, onion and garlic were proved to increase HDL (good cholesterol) levels considerably.

6.      Use olive oil in your daily food:  Olive oil is described by nutritionists as the triple saviour:  it lowers bad cholesterol and raises the good cholesterol (HDL) and therefore improving the cholesterol/HDL ratio.  Olive oil is best used raw in sald dressings or as a dip with thyme, labaneh, hummus or fava beans.

7.      Include few nuts in your daily menu:  One of the ease ways to lower cholesterol levels is by eating few nuts, especially walnuts and almonds, as a substitute for other sources of fat.

8.      Don’t forget antioxidant-rich foods:  Antioxidants, such as Vitamins C, E and beta carotene, were proved to protect HDL from attack and destruction by free radicals and keep cholesterol from becoming oxidized and toxic.

Citrus fruits, tomatoes, strawberries and kiwis are rich in Vitamin C, while leafy green vegetables, carrots, peaches and apricots are rich in beta carotene.  Vitamin E can be obtained from vegetable oils, nuts and seeds.  If cholesterol levels are high, a daily supplement of Vitamin E is important.

9.      Soya protein and soya lecithin:  New research is focusing on the importance of soya protein in lowering cholesterol levels; soya beans, soya milk and tofu can replace other animal protein in our daily diets.  As for soya lecithin, studies show that it reduces cholesterol levels considerably.

Diet therapy usually works best on those with the worst lipid profiles.  Different people react differently to different foods, just as they react differently to cholesterol-lowering drugs; therefore, one should not rely on a single kind of food to solve his/her problems.  Variety is the name of the game.

Poetry With A Message:

FIRST ONE BAD THING, AND THEN ANOTHER!

When I was young and first able to understand,

The ways of this World and all the unhappiness of man,

I thought about all the poverty, sadness and death;

Nothing seemed sure except that days of gloom only lingereth.

I just couldn’t understand why people always had to suffer,

Lack happiness, ample food, clothes, medical care, and a Deliverer.

Didn’t GOD see what was happening on this immoral Earth?

Didn’t HE care about the People and that little was of any worth?

I had seen churches literally lining every corner,

And wondered weren’t they, in their multitude of numbers the forewarner.

The Preachers had information all about sin, hell, and damnation,

About dying and going to heaven but no answers about surviving in this Creation.

They all sang the same ol’ sad songs, clapping and raising high their hands,

Week after week and year after year, but without any feasible plans.

We needed a way out, a guarantee, something that would have to work,

Something foolproof that would end the tears, misery, and all these pains that irk.

One thing is definitely for sure, the numerous churches were not the answer,

For after 2,000 years inside these organizations the picture was even gloomier.

After becoming an adult, I started doing some more serious thinking,

Knowing there had to be answers for this World that was quickly sinking.

I found that GOD provided HIS Paths a long time ago for us to follow,

To live HIS Law, HIS Word in Truth and Righteousness for all to hallow.

So, what gave the Christian man the right to change GOD’s Divine Ways?

It’s no wonder wickedness abounds and the real Truth is a maze.

This globe and its rulers have turned GOD’s Ways upside down,

In the Name of Justice they have made the rich richer and the poor to abound.

Every nation is against the other while atomic weapons of war are aplenty,

Man in his wisdom is on the road to ending it all with pollution, arms, and enmity.

Therefore, we won’t have to wait long for what they call Judgment Day,

The bombs, destruction, and annihilation will bring on a New Earth, so they say.

Then maybe there will be an end to first one bad thing and then another,

Under GOD’s Righteous Laws, HIS Ways, and HIS Paths that we recover.

What a day to look forward to and what a World without evil and sin,

No murder, sickness, hatred, and sorrows within.

Only First One GOOD Alternative After another,

Living in Fear of the True GOD and loving our Brother!

Therefore speedily let’s give the True GOD and Creator a try,

To see what following HIS Ways of Righteousness can buy.

Let’s search HIS Law and see what all we need to do,

To fear and please this Great GOD as we all start anew.

According to all that I’ve seen written, I know that HE is Merciful,

To all who are contrite, humble, serious, and to HIM remorseful.

THIRD ENTRY

"Yeah, baby, like I said, I asked Jacob the same question.

Perhaps it wasn't fair to ask him.  After all, he doesn't profess

to be a prophet.  And if he did, I probably wouldn't have given him

the time of day.  We've got enough Father Divines and money hungry

evangelists walking around today.  Anyway, he says he doesn't know.

At least that was an answer I can deal with.  Had he said next

week, next month, or even next year, I would have looked at him a

little funny.  He seems to think it's not too far in the distant

future as the rulers of this world seem to be on a road to self-

destruction.  I guess God does things in his own time, and he's

got to protect his people before he will allow the rulers of this

world to blow themselves up.  All I know is that if God doesn't

make a move real soon, then pollution, the ghetto, AIDS, hard

labor, drugs, alcohol, crime, murder, or the third world war is

going to destroy us all."

"Has Jacob got a wife?" asked Hattie.

"Yes.  He's married, and they have three children.  I can only

guess that this Michael kid is his.  Baby, I want to invite them

over for Sunday.  What do you think?  You know I don't ask people

to come to my house cause you don't know what people are into these

days.  But I like this brother.  Look at me, calling him brother

just like I've been a Black Jew for years," chuckled James.

"James, what will we serve them?  I'm not ashamed of my home.

It's the best we can do, and it's clean.  But do you think they'll

like our 'home sweet home?'" asked Hattie seriously.

"We can serve them some crackers and cheese and potatoes chips

with kool-aid or something.  And if they don't like our home, then

we'll go to their house and count all their pieces of name brand

furniture," said James with a wink.  "Come here, baby.  You've made

my home a castle, and you've given me six golden flowers, and I

love you for it.  Matter of fact, stay home tonight so I can prove

it to you," he said with another wink.

"You little devil you.  What a wonderful idea, but I've got to

take a raincheck.  You know rent's due next week," said Hattie.

"Did I ever tell you how much I love you?" she asked as he held her

in his arms.

"No, baby, but I hope it's more than the last time you asked

me that question."

"It is, honey.  It is.  Now, let me go to work before I change

my mind."

Hattie kissed and hugged her husband and was swiftly out of

the door.

C H A P T E R    3

Meeting with Jacob and Miriam Knight was a forth coming event

that everyone was looking forward to.  They had agreed to visit a

week from Sunday as they still had much unpacking and settling in

to do.  Even Jonathon and Lizzy were inquisitive about this family

that had moved to Chicago from South Carolina and that had all

eight members of the Mason clan yapping about Black History, Black

and White America, and above all, the Bible.  But perhaps what kept

Lizzy excited was the fact that the Knights had a seventeen-year-

old son named Salem, who was a senior at the high school.  Jonathon

was impressed with Salem's deft moves on the basketball court.

Maggie was tickled to have a friend her own age, eleven, and one

her parents thought suitable to have visit the house.  She had met

Sharon in school during lunch time and invited her to sit at her

table.  Maggie thought she was the prettiest little black girl

she'd ever seen.  It was Sharon who made Maggie a believer that

Black is really Beautiful.  She was chocolate and had big beautiful

eyes with lashes that looked at least an inch long.  She wore a

short afro that was kept neat all the time and had lovely gold

earrings that hung only slightly.  Maggie hadn't particularly cared

about Black History or black anything until she met the Knights.

Now, she, too, wanted to know more about this phenomenon - Black

Jews.

Everyone was amazed to learn that there were Black Jews living

all over the United States - some in New York, Pennsylvania,

California, New Jersey, and Illinois.  Maggie was so excited with

the prospect that she could be a genuine Jew that she had

completely forgotten about wanting to be a white one.  She, too,

was reading the Bible as if it were a novel on how to become a

millionaire.  James had to go to the Salvation Army to pick up

extra Bibles because the one Bible they had, no longer collected

dust.  It was now being passed from one to the other and beginning

to show signs of wear and tear.

That week passed quickly.  Every day James came home with

sensational information that proved that the original Hebrews in

the Bible were Black and that they had to worship one God, the God

of Israel.  And during biblical days, if they didn't, God would

make them suffer at the hands of an oppressor, famine, or even

death.  James and the others knew about the First Commandment, but

had never contemplated the words:

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me." (Exodus 20:3)

"Hear O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord." (Deu. 6:4)

"I, even I, am the Lord; and besides me there is no savior."

(Isaiah 43:11)

"I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is

no God." (Isaiah 44:6)

"Yet I am the Lord Thy God from the Land of Egypt and thou

shalt know no god but me: for there is no savior besides me."

(Hosea 13:4)

"... Is there a God besides me?  Yea, there is no God; I know

not any." (Isaiah 44:8)

"... before me there was no God formed, neither shall there

be after me." (Isaiah 43:10)

James knew that if God didn't know of any other God, then he

wasn't going to be gullible enough to accept one created by man.

He couldn't believe that what he had learned about the Bible from

Jacob was unacceptable to most people.  The other men and women at

work thought that James and Jacob had lost their minds and couldn't

have cared less about James new found religious philosophy.  One

man told James that his great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother

were all Christians, Baptist to be exact, and they never questioned

their religion and he wasn't going to, either.  That statement

caused James to think about the passage in Jeremiah (16:10-13):

"... Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced all this great evil

against us?  or what is our iniquity?  or what is our sin that we

have committed against the Lord our God?

"Then shalt they say unto them, Because your fathers have

forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after other gods, and

have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me,

and have not kept my law;

"And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye

walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they

may not hearken unto me:

"Therefore will I cast you out of this land (Israel) into a

land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall

ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you

favor."

"In vain have I smitten your children ..." (Jeremiah 2:30)

"... your young men have I slain with the sword ... yet have

ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord." (Amos 4:10)

"Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask

for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therin, and ye

shall find rest for your souls.  But they said, we will not walk

therein.

"Hear, O earth:  behold, I will bring evil upon this people,

even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened

unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it." (Jeremiah 6:16,19)

It all seemed so baffling to James.  He couldn't understand

how anyone could reject this precious information.  But he knew one

thing, and that was that the God of Israel was a dreadful God who

did not lie.  Everything this God had said came to pass.  James

knew this much because he helped to fulfill God's will by suffering

as the prophets had foretold.

He was grateful for Black History as that was his assurance

or proof of his identity.  James knew that after the Children of

Israel left Egypt, they wondered in the wilderness for forty years.

During that time Moses warned them that if they didn't keep God's

Laws that they'd go back into captivity again (Deuteronomy 28th-

32nd Chapters).  Israel didn't heed this warning, and therefore,

God removed his people from their land and sent them into the four

corners of the earth.  But Egypt was a picnic in comparison to the

persecution and sorrow suffered in these United States and in the

rest of the world.  The Israelites were taken to the New World on

slave ships just as God had said.  This curse affected millions of

Blacks.  Today in the United States, alone, there are approximately

fifty million African-Americans.  No one can erase this history.

The records show the truth, and it is written in indelible ink.

The oppression suffered by these people then and even to this day

happened to African-Americans and to no one else.  Therefore, there

is no doubt about who the Children of Israel are today.  James knew

that it was important to realize that the group of Israelites who

were held captive in Egypt could be identified as just about

anyone.  But because the Children of Israel went into captivity a

second time, there can be no mistake about the genuine identity of

African-Americans.  God may have changed the name of his people,

but upon whom the curse fell was unequivocally Blacks in the

western world.

"And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a

byword, among all nations whither the Lord shall lead thee."(Deu.

 28:37)

"He (thy captor) shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend

to him:  he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail." (Deu.

28:44)

"Thou shalt be for fuel to the fire; thy blood shall be in the

midst of the land; thou shalt be no more remembered: for I the Lord

have spoken it." (Ezekiel 21:32)

"...have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a

mocking to all countries." (Ezekiel 22:4)

James knew he could identify with the astonishment, the

proverb, and the byword.  As a matter of fact the astonishment was

being Black in White America, the proverb was his first job, and

the byword was his second.  He knew he was tired of working like

a dog and getting peanuts at the expense of his health, but he also

knew that that, too, was part of the curse he was fulfilling.

However, James found satisfaction in knowing the truth about why

African-Americans are the tail and the rulers of this country are

the head.

What James found most astonishing was that the history of the

Children of Israel could be traced from Israel, to Africa, and even

to the New World.  He had learned that long after Moses delivered

the Children of Israel out of Egypt and after the Ten Tribes of

Israel were taken into captivity by the Assyrians (II Kings 17th

Chapter and I Chronicles 5:26), that then, the Children of Judah

and the few priests who were left in Israel still did not obey the

Laws of God.  Consequently, they, too, were subject to God's wrath.

And every time God's people went into captivity or there was a

famine in the land, the Hebrews fled into Africa (The Land of Ham).

"Thank God," said James, "for the history of the Bible."  God had

begun to scatter his people even before they had reached the Land

of Canaan.  Jacob had cited several chapters as proof of these

Israelites going into Africa.

"(While in the wilderness with Moses) They soon forget his

works; they waited not for his counsel:

"But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in

the desert.

"But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice

of the Lord.

"Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow

them in the wilderness:

"To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter

them in the lands." (Psalms 106:13,14,25-27)

Other passages that James had read were even more fascinating:

"Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take

counsel, but not of me:  and that cover with a covering, but not

of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

"That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my

mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to

trust in the shadow of Egypt!

"Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and

the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion."  (Isaiah 30:1-3)

"In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your

hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, whither

ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye

might be a curse and a reproach among all nations of the earth?

"And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their

faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojurn there, and they shall

all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be

consumed by the sword and by the famine:  they shall die, from the

least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine:  and

they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and

a reproach.

"For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as

I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the

pestilence."  (Jeremiah 44:8,12,13)

James reflected on what he had learned in the past ten days.

He had always believed in God and had even accepted his son,

Christ, as a savior, also just like, he supposed, every other

Christian.  Knowing now that God is the one and only God, he had

no difficulty dropping Christ simply because God said, "I will not

give my glory to another." (Isaiah 48:11)  What really made James

a believer of one God and to drop Christ as the son of God and

Savior of the World was the following:

"And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel

is my son, even my firstborn." (Exodus 4:22)

"When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son

out of Egypt."  (Hosea 11:1)

"For the Lord's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his

inheritance."  (Deu. 32:9)

James felt like there were some issues you just couldn't

argue.  The rulers of the world had made a dreadful mistake in

idolizing Christ as the Lord and Savior - a mistake that somehow

made James realize that they would pay for dearly.

There was no doubt in James mind that in addition to serving

one God, the Israelites also had to keep God's Laws if they were

to be subject to his multitude of mercies:

"Remember ye the law of Moses my servant ..." (Malachi 4:4)

This was so important to God that He decided to make a new covenant

with His people, whereby, the next time He returned His people home

to the land of Israel, He would write His laws in their hearts

keeping Israel from ever sinning against Him again (Jeremiah 31:31-

33)

James was satisfied with finding this new God and felt

fortunate and special and wanted to broadcast to the world

everything he had recently learned about the Bible.  But it

saddened him to realize that this information is not welcomed into

the hearts of all his people.  He, therefore, spent much time

reading and discussing the Bible with his new friend, Jacob and

with his own family.
