HINTS FOR HARDY, HEALTHY HEBREWS:

The Jordan Times Newspaper usually publishes articles on Health and Body every week, and on November 7, 2000 the paper carried an article entitled “Arming Yourself to Fight the Flu.” While I realize that the last issue of The LawKeepers Newsletter printed information on herbs for colds and the flu, it is worthwhile to be aware of the following information in this article:

Researchers have identified an array of herbs and supplements that may help boost your immunity

It’s not the sound of rustling leaves that tells me fall is here. It’s the chorus of coughing and sneezing in my waiting room. As kids return to school and we all start shutting our windows, cold and flue viruses have a heyday that can last until spring.

YOU’VE probably heard that Vitamin C and Echinacea leaves can boost your immunity. But the truth is, other supplements are more likely to help you. As a physician, I combine several of them in a regimen I call “immunotics.”

Elements of this approach will sound familiar – science has vindicated your mother’s views on eating well and getting enough sleep – but other aspects will sound exotic. For example, I advise patients to take two 600mg capsules of NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) daily whenever they feel an infection coming on. And I take one capsule a day as a prophylactic.

NAC, a special form of the amino acid cysteine, boosts levels of glutathione, an antioxidant produced by the body that is essential for healthy immune function. In a large, six-month study of NAC, Italian researchers found that while the supplement did not prevent infection with the flue virus, it dramatically reduced the severity and duration of illness. Only 25 per cent of the flu-stricken volunteers taking 600mg twice daily reported feeling sick, versus 79 per cent of the placebo users.

In my experience, NAC also helps ease colds, allergies and sinus infections. Like the other supplements I recommend, it’s available without a prescription at selected health-food stores, supermarkets, discount chains and online pharmacies – and it is not known to cause side effects or drug interactions. NAC costs roughly 25 cents per capsule.

For adults or children who are plagued by frequent infections, I recommend an herb called astragalus. Test-tube and animal studies suggest that this staple of Chinese medicine boosts the activity of two types of immune cells (T cells and natural killer cells). And researchers at the University of Texas Medical Centre have found that it helps counter the immunosuppressive effects of cancer chemotherapy. (If you’re on chemotherapy, don’t take any herb or medicine without consulting your physician.)

A bottle of 60 to 90 astragalus capsules (500mg each) cost $6 to $15. My infection-prone patients take two capsules daily.

If your child suffers from ear infections, you might consider giving her Western larch, a nutrient-rich pine extract. Its immune fighting ingredient is a natural sugar called arabinogalactan, which is also found in astragalus and Echinacea.

A study conducted at the Southwest Research Institute, in Tempe, Arizona found that 1,500mg of larch sugar, administered daily, raised immune cell counts in adult volunteers. No one has yet conducted a controlled clinical trial in children, but many physicians have found it useful, and researchers are now launching a major study of kids’ recurrent ear infections.

Larch comes in capsules or in a powder that can be mixed in juice, and it’s very save. In fact larch powder has been approved as a thickening agent for powdered puddings. For a daily immune boost, children should take 1 teaspoon of powder daily; adults should take 1 tablespoon (or three 500mg capsules). For acute infections, take the same doses three times a day, with meals.

Western larch is sold as “larch arabinogalactan” or “larch extract” and is very inexpensive.

The list goes on. Beta glucan, a natural sugar found in baker’s yeast, has a powerful effect on immune cells known as macrophages, but at $70 a month it’s a bit costly to use as a tonic.

Olive leaf extract is more affordable ($25 to $40 for four months’ worth of 500mg capsules). And because its active ingredient, oleuropein, kills a wide range of viruses and bacteria, it’s a good safeguard for schoolteachers, physicians and other people who are constantly exposed. I take one capsule with breakfast each morning.

Not all supplements work equally well for everyone. I recommend starting with an inexpensive one (larch or astragalus) and adding olive leaf or beta glucan if you still need a boost. And keep NAC around for those nasty colds and flus.

Though none of these supplements have known hazards, you should avoid them if you’re taking antirejection drugs. And because some products contain less active ingredient than their labels suggest, talk to a pharmacist or herbalist about which brands are most reputable.

You may not banish colds and flu from your life, but you’ll give your body an advantage. As I tell my patients, take care of your immune system and it will take care of you.

Here in Jordan my neighbor who has four children aged ten to four months told me about a medicine called Pilka which is an herbal medication for coughs, but she uses it for mucus and runny noses, as well. However, what I was surprised to learn is that this medicine contains thyme extract, pinguicula (butterwort), and drosera (sundew). Now, whether you can find this medication in the States or not, I don’t know. But you should certainly be able to find the herbs.

Just one more thing, if you should catch a cold, flu, or even pneumonia and all herbs fail, don’t hesitate to use the remedy our parents gave us. You know; that dreaded Castor oil. Whew!! Just thinking about it gives me the hebegeebees! But man-O’-man does it ever work.

When my youngest son was under the doctor’s care for three weeks, we (not knowing that he had pneumonia) were in and out of the emergency room every three to four nights because of his high fever. It wasn’t until about the second week (after I asked the doctor to do a chest x-ray) that we found out he had pneumonia. After not eating for three weeks, he became a skeleton, his eyes were all sunken in, and he could hardly stand up because he was so weak. While he looked like he was leaving this World, PRAISE YIHOVAH, it came to me to give him Castor oil. The next day after I had given him the Castor oil (two large Tablespoonsful) he started to eat. And only after that did he start coming around. Poor baby, then I gave him another dose of the stuff.

PLEASE READ WHAT’S WRITTEN FROM GOD’S BOOK OF THE LAW VERY CAREFULLY, AS THIS VERIFIES THAT IN ORDER TO BE DELIVERED, WE MUST BE OBEDIENT TO GOD’S WRITTEN LAW AND NOT WHAT WE “THINK” OR “ASSUME” FROM MEAGER SPECULATION:

“And the Lord shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the Lord shall lead you.

“But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

“When thou are in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God and SHALT BE OBEDIENT UNTO HIS VOICE;

“(For the Lord thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.” Deuteronomy 4:27,29 – 31

“And shalt return unto the Lord thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;

“That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.” Deuteronomy 30:2,3

IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE ONLY WAY WE WILL BE FOUND WORTHY AND GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW GOD IS TO DO AND LIVE HIS LAWS, as therein lies our wisdom and understanding and REDEMPTION. And through keeping of this Law, we obtain mercy and deliverance that we have not experienced since long before Ezra and Nehemiah who were the last of Judah to be cursed into captivity at the hands of the cruel and merciless rulers of this evil and wicked World.

“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

“O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.” Psalm 34:8,9

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Hosea 10:12

We know all too well the severe, harsh, and long punishment of the African Slave Trade that fulfilled Deuteronomy 28^th Chapter due to our forefathers rejecting the Holy ONE of Israel and breaking HIS Law. Let us analyze the whole picture and rethink our position, determination, and desires for these latter days. Let us decide to accept ONLY the Holy ONE of Israel and HIS Paths of Righteousness and reject all other forms of doctrine. And the reason is that we yet endure the curse of Deuteronomy 28^th Chapter and live in the lands of our wicked and merciless captors. And because we are exposed and subject to all forms and manner of brainwashing and false worship that turns us from the True and Living GOD and HIS Law, we must be circumspect and strong in GOD’s Truth and wise in discerning what’s right from wrong. Let us not continue to be subject to and deceived by false leadership and our Gentile rulers. If we seek GOD’s Salvation, we must cease to abide by organized religions and the philosophies of the Gentiles (Jeremiah 10:2). And the only way to do this is to accept and be taught from GOD’s Law and from HIS Word to HIS Prophets. This is the ONLY WAY!

“Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.” Jeremiah 2:35

There has been much discussion on how we should observe GOD’s Holy “Sabbath of Rest,” as if the great and glorious name of this day isn’t enough explanation in itself. The same WISDOM that accompanies the keeping of GOD’s Law tells us that if this day is a day of rest, then we must comply and do as it says, “REST,” and that goes for the whole household and servants and anything that might be used to accomplish a service. If we are permitted to travel in order to gather/assemble on this Holy Seventh Day of Rest, then where is this Law ordained by the Holy ONE of Israel?

There has also been much discussion on “oral tradition” also known as “oral law,” a phrase coined during the Grecian/Roman Era by Edomites and converts to “Judaism.” But some Israelites deem it to be as important as GOD’s Book of the Law by assuring us that it is needed, as if GOD’s Law needs help by man, nonetheless. And in the same breath, we are told to accept that which seems right or that which agrees with GOD’s Law. In accepting this “oral tradition,” we are also involuntarily proclaiming that GOD’s Book of the Law is not as “Perfect” as the Scriptures assert it to be. This is obvious if we feel the need to turn to the works of “man” whose thoughts can in no way be compared with the directives and guidelines of the All-Mighty GOD and Creator. My People, we are indeed going backwards! How can we be so close to GOD’s Salvation and be so far from HIS beaten Paths?

When are we going to stop adding to and taking from GOD’s Book of the Law? Instead of abiding in our places on GOD’s Sabbath Day of Rest, now we are advised that it’s okay to use our cars and public transportation to assemble and gather on the Seventh Day, even though there is no specific Law stating to do so. So, now, just because we assume it’s all right to leave our places/dwellings, we conjure up a reason to justify our sin. Let it be known that it didn’t work with King Saul, and it won’t work with us (I Samuel 15:22).

“Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.

“He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.” Deuteronomy 32:3,4

“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.” II Samuel 22:31

“God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.” II Samuel 22:32

“Let your heart therefore be perfect with the Lord our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.” I Kings 8:61

“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

”The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Psalm 19:7,8

Where in the above verses or anywhere else in GOD’s Law or HIS Word to HIS Prophets is it written or even suggests that sinful and rebellious Israel needs some “oral tradition/law?” Actually, because of our unrighteous track record, the last thing we need is “oral tradition.” And if YIHOVAH told the Nation of Israel to “abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day” unless we can find HIS Law of the Sabbath advising the contrary, we had better know what we are doing or suffer death, as this is the penalty for breaking the Law of the Sabbath Day of Rest. When will we stop following after our own understanding and just live by GOD’s Law?

“Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways FROM THE ANCIENT PATHS, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;” Jeremiah 18:15 (Caps are mine.)

“But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.” Jeremiah 7:24

One would think that because we yet live in the lands of our captors that we would know by now to not follow in the same footsteps of our forefathers. They totally disregarded GOD’s Law and HIS Ordinances and established their own. Please, let us do as Our GOD wishes and make for ourselves a “new heart and a new spirit” (Ezekiel 18:31) so that we may live in HIS Kingdom. We have a Law, a Perfect Law, written by the All-Mighty GOD of Abraham. Let us follow it, as we have been Commanded by Our GOD or be doomed to fall in these Days of GOD’s Wrath.

Please consider that which makes common sense for those of us who believe in GOD’s Book of the Law. We know the death and consequences of putting even a drop of contaminated AIDS blood into a healthy blood bank. Likewise, we know the consequences of adding even the smallest detail of our own understanding, assumptions, and the imaginations of our hearts to GOD’s Book of the Law. And Likewise, we know the consequences of using “oral tradition/law,” the “New Testament,” and the Gentiles’ philosophies – any one of them. When will we realize that GOD’s Book of the Law is “Perfect” and is the ONLY Way, and that through keeping of it, we are guaranteed the counsel of the Most High GOD of Israel. If we are to be the “peculiar and special” People referred to in GOD’s Law (Exodus 19:5 and Deuteronomy 7:6), then know that it is GOD’s Law that makes us this remarkable and ”Holy” Nation.

Let us realize that Our GOD, HE is GOD, Our Savior, YIHOVAH, and will grant us any understanding that we might lack and anything we might need fitting for this period of time – if we are worthy. WE DON’T NEED ANYTHING OR ANY ONE ELSE BUT OUR YIHOVAH! But if we choose to change HIS Commandments and seek the counsel of mere men rather than adhere to HIS Word, then we can expect to fall with the evil and sinful souls that make up this horrific World.

“Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? Prudent, and he shall know them? For the ways of the Lord are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.” Hosea 14:9

There is but One Way to serve and worship the GOD of Abraham and Moses – ONE WAY and that’s “HIS WAY!” This is what it means to “know GOD” and what HE is all about!!!

“For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, TO SERVE HIM WITH ONE CONSENT.” Zephaniah 3:9

IT DOESN’T GET ANY PLAINER THAN THAT!

“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

“Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? Ezekiel 18:30,31

It is up to us to bring an end to the insane circumstances that our forefathers and we, also, have determined for ourselves. And the only way to do this is to know the GOD of Israel and understand and accept what HE has determined necessary to return to HIM, and then let us be obedient to HIS Word with our whole heart and soul in Righteousness.

The Holy ONE of Israel is there for all of us who seek HIM to do HIS Will. I don’t know how to tell you any better than I have, that HE is there for us to lead and guide us if we just put HIM FIRST and make HIM a significant part of our lives. If you want to be led by the Holy ONE of Israel, then without delay turn to the same Book of the Law that HE gave HIS Prophet Moses to teach us many, many years ago. Our GOD never changed HIS Law; HE established it to make us a Holy and Special People for HIS Praise, Glory, and Exaltation. Therefore, we don’t need any “oral tradition;” we need Our GOD. And because this All-Mighty GOD of Israel is the only ONE that can determine what is considered Righteousness, Truth, and Salvation, let us do HIS Law and restore HIM, YIHOVAH, the Holy ONE of Israel, back into our lives.

“Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour besides me.”

Hosea 13:4

“Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose

heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men,

neither be ye afraid of their revilings.”

Isaiah 51:7

ALL PRAISES DUE TO YIHOVAH, HIS Truth has been presented herewith. I have shown it to you in HIS Law. Whether it is accepted or not really isn’t the issue. The fact that the Holy ONE of Israel has allowed HIS Word to be proclaimed is what’s important. A Righteous Remnant will be called, and they will not add to or take from GOD’s Law. This Remnant will accept it as it is written and without question.

Without YIHOVAH, Our Only GOD and Savior and without HIS Law and guidance we are lost!

“O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.” Hosea 13:9

If only we would listen to HIM and follow HIS Old Paths, the sooner we will be returned to our heritage to establish the True and Righteous Kingdom of the Living GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel. Aww but some of us have returned, and for this reason, the Holy ONE is in the process of fulfilling Isaiah 11^th Chapter. To those of us who prefer to add to GOD’s Law, be cautioned that we do not want YIHOVAH to cause us to err from HIS Ways (Isaiah 63:17) during these trying times when we need HIM most. To those of us in the fear of YIHOVAH: do not be misled; continue to FEAR YIHOVAH and stay with HIS BOOK OF THE LAW!

“Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him

while he is near:”

Isaiah 55:6

BE ENCOURAGED!

It seems some people suffer more than others.

It's always one thing after another.

Remember that everything happens for a reason;

And to everything, there's a time and a season.

So, don't give up in the midst of your trials.

Your persistence will pay off in just a little while.

Be encouraged no matter how things go wrong;

And overcome your battles by being persistent and strong.

Accept the fact that you'll be tested and tried;

And under the wings of Yah, His servants will abide.

He is our protection in our time of need,

and He won't abandon us, unless His commandments, we fail to heed.

We are responsible for all of our ways and actions,

but through grace and mercy comes Yah's compassion.

Everyone has trials and tribulations,

but the one enduring till the end, overcomes the situation.

Trust in Yah to make everything all right,

because we can control only those things within our might.

We all have experienced ups and downs;

But to the patient and strong, goes the crown.

Look to Yah for help and strength,

and never give up, lest you sin and repent.

During our trials and tribulations, we must stay strong;

Don't faint or stray, just keep holding on.

When everything seems to be going terribly wrong,

just keep the faith, deliverance won't be too long.

When family and friends have turned their back on you;

Yah will pick you up and carry you through.

Remember, Yah is working things out for you,

just obey his laws, and He will bring you through.

When the heartaches and pain are more than you can bear,

put it in Yah's hand and leave it right there.

Always be encouraged in what you do or say,

and trust in Yah, He is definitely the only way.
