Tribute to the New Moon
Revised:
“For as the new heavens and the new earth,
which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed
and your name remain.
“And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and
from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith
the LORD.”
Isaiah
66:22,23
PLEASE TAKE PART IN “SIGHTING” THE NEW
MOON
<<<The First Day of the
“HEBREW” Month>>>
START THE NEXT NEW MOON WATCH ON THE
EVENINGS OF
<<<JUNE 30, - JULY 2, 2002>>>
BY LOOKING IN THE “WEST” JUST ABOVE THE
HORIZON.
“He appointed the moon for
seasons…”
Psalm 104:19
The first “Sign” in the Heavens to provide
the start of days, years and “seasons” can only begin with the “Sighting” of the
New Moon Crescent - that which we can “see” in order for it to serve as a
“Sign” and enable us to begin counting our days. Just imagine not being able to
“see” the moon at all. How then
could it be appointed for seasons?
“The natural thought might be that the moon is like a living being. It is born, grows, reaches maximum size, then fades and dies, going through all these stages in one month. Even today, we still talk of the thin crescent in the western sky as a new moon and the thin crescent in the eastern sky a month later as the old moon. Half way between is the full moon. As I explained earlier, this cycle of phases of the moon established the month as a unit of time, and the first calendars were based on this.” ISAAC ASIMOV’S GUIDE TO EARTH AND SPACE, pages 79 and 80
In
that the King of Israel is supposed to be a “Righteous Judge” (II Chronicles 1:11),
it stands to reason that he is also supposed to be a “Righteous Role Model.” Thus, if the King that GOD appoints over
Israel observes a “feast” on the day of the New Moon, then wisdom
tells the Nation of Israel to do likewise.
King Saul and the anointed David
observed this service (I Samuel 20th Chapter).
To
their and our hurt our forefathers worshipped all manner of symbols: the sun, moon, stars, and images of gold
and silver. To observe the “Sign”
in the heavens as being the New Moon “Sighting” is NOT worshipping the moon, but
rather it is doing as we are COMMANDED in Genesis 1:14:
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:”
Some people feel that the moon has no “light,” but according to GOD’s WORD to HIS Prophets, it most certainly does: Isaiah 13:10; Isaiah 30:26; Jeremiah 31:35; Ezekiel 32:7.
***
“Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.
“Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.
“Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in
the time appointed,
on our solemn feast day.
“For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.”
Psalm 81:1 - 4
(A Psalm of Asaph, the Seer –
one who should be well informed about GOD’s Ways)
“Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for
a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.”
Numbers
10:10
Contrary to the belief of some Israelites,
the moon does indeed shine! Whether
the Moon shines on its own or with the aid of the sun, IT STILL SHINES! And the fact that Scripture attests to
this fact, is what’s important: Isaiah 60:19; Jeremiah 31:35; and Ezekiel
32:7. Therefore, Genesis 1:14 is proof enough that we
must use the shining New Moon
Crescents as “…SIGNS, AND FOR
SEASONS, AND FOR DAYS, AND FOR YEARS:”
Some Israelites, along with White Jews, use
the dark phase of the moon to determine the start of a new month. If the dark phase of the moon lasts for
“2-3 days,” then which of these days is supposed to be the distinguishing “Sign” that determines the First Day of
the month? Or do we just
arbitrarily select either or depending on the imaginations of our hearts? On the contrary, with the use of
the sighted “Sign” of the New Moon
Crescent in the Heavens we eliminate any
confusion as to which day IS the First Day of the month. The only problem that presents itself is
cloud coverage that prevents the ability to see the New Moon Crescent. Nonetheless, one can easily
distinguish the New Moon Crescent “Sighting” from all the other phases due to
its thin sliver and its low position in the heavens, and the reason is that no two days or rather phases of the
visible moon are alike.
Thus, to use the New Moon Crescent as the “Sign” in the heavens, as we
are COMMANDED to do for our seasons, days, and years, negates the belief that
the “commandment was given to the luminaries.” The “luminaries” fulfill GOD’s
Commandments: the sun shines and
the moon orbits the Earth. They
have no need to determine seasons, days, and years. Hence, our New Moons are obviously of more
spiritual significance to the Nation of Israel than we are aware. And for sure, the TRUTH concerning them
are in GOD’s WORD to HIS Prophets/Seers - not the White Jews or other
Gentiles. All we need do is use
wisdom, discern what’s written in Scripture, accept it, and act
accordingly!
Unless
there is an emergency, please try not to buy or sell on this day. Conduct all financial and business
transactions prior to the day of the New Moon. Interesting enough, II Kings 4:23,24
constitutes the New Moon as being a day to seek “the man of God.” Although the New Moon is NOT a Day of Rest,
Our GOD did set it aside for recognition:
“Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.” Psalm 81:3
“And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.” Isaiah 66:23
“…When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn?…” Amos 8:5
Probably, the Scripture that most determines and clarifies the fact that our New Moons are Feast Days is Ezekiel 45:17:
“And it shall be the prince’s part to give burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and drink offerings, in the feasts, and in the NEW MOONS, and in the Sabbaths, in ALL SOLEMNITIES of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the HOUSE OF ISRAEL.” (Caps. are mine.)
Unequivocally, our New Moons
are included in these “SOLEMNITIES” mentioned in Ezekiel 45:17.
“Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before the LORD in the Sabbaths [Feasts – NOT 7th Day Sabbaths*] and in the NEW MOONS.” Ezekiel 46:3 (Brackets are mine.)
Thereby, this verse justifies the First Day of each month being our “Feast” Day. It should be realized that the Feast Days that Our GOD selected (Leviticus 23rd Chapter) are “Holy Convocations,” i.e., on these days we cannot do any work. However, because King Saul observed the New Moon as a Feast Day, we have every reason to do so, as well. We also have learned that our forefathers traveled to the Temple to worship the Holy ONE on the New Moon (II Kings 4:23; Ezekiel 45:17; and Ezekiel 46:1), and when HE has HIS Temple rebuilt, then we will again be able to resume this service and worship.
When we return to our heritage and worship YIHOVAH according to HIS Ways, then we can establish our own “Calendar of the Universe,” whereby, the days of the New Moon and all GOD’s Holy Days will be recognized by the whole entire World. And I am sure that it will be the desire of the Righteous Remnant and ALL the world to make a Feast to the Most High GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel every First Day of the Month.
ALSO, I believe that if Lot (Genesis 19:3) and Abraham (Genesis 21:8) can proclaim “Feasts,” then there is no stipulation for NOT establishing Feast Days, as we so desire. Therefore, to proclaim a Feast to EXALT the Holy ONE of Israel on the First Day of each month is quite acceptable - given the Scripture (above) regarding worshipping Our LORD GOD of ISRAEL, Our SAVIOR, on the New Moons. We should know that throughout the Tanakh Hebrew Israelites called for “feasts” for various occasions. Therefore, we are within our rights to observe a Feast every New Moon to Our GOD, the GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel. And those of us who love this WONDERFUL GOD and who choose HIM to EXALT HIM for being the ONLY LORD and SAVIOR can be at liberty to use the day of the New Moon to show forth HIS PRAISE in a “feast” and worship HIM in Jerusalem FOREVER.
“And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to
Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up
burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his
servants.”

HINTS FOR HARDY, HEALTHY HEBREWS:
The following is a very interesting article on “sugar” consumption. Read the article, check for tires around the waistline, and then decide whether or not it has merit!
*****
I’M CONFUSED - IS SUGAR BAD FOR YOU OR NOT?
Tuesday, June 10, 2003
First it was sugar, then it was fat, and
now it's back to sugar. These days, sugar is held partially responsible for
the alarming increase in obesity and disease. Best-selling books like "Sugar Busters" and
"Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" warn us to avoid sugar like the plague.
The World Health Organization (WHO)
came out with a recommendation to keep intake of added sugars at less than 10
percent of total calories. The U.S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA) advises a limit of 10 teaspoons of added sugar
a day (based on a 2,000-calorie diet). Meanwhile, the Institute of Medicine
recommends that sugar should not comprise more than 25 percent of your daily
calories - and still Americans are consuming approximately 20 percent of their
diets as "added" or "free" sugar - about
20 to 30 teaspoons each day.
I must tell you, I'm completely confused - is sugar bad for you or not?
For
starters, we are biologically programmed to like sweet things. This innate
preference actually protected our ancestors from eating poisonous foods, which
tend to be sour. Sugars, starches and fiber are all members of the nutrient
category called carbohydrates and are your body's main source of fuel. (The WHO recommends that between 55 and 75
percent of daily intake come from carbohydrates.) All carbohydrates (fruit, vegetables,
starches, milk and yogurt) contain some natural sugar. For example, milk
contains lactose, fruits and vegetables contain fructose and glucose, and grains
contain chains of glucose linked together.
The body
digests carbohydrates to simple sugars, which are recognized by the body as an
energy source. "Sugars can be part of a healthful diet, in moderation. In fact, naturally occurring or added
sugars can make nutritious foods more appealing by adding taste, aroma, texture
and color," says Barbara Rolls, Ph.D., professor of nutrition at Penn State
University and author of "The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan" (Harper Mass
Market Paperbacks, 2002).
So why
should you reduce sugar in your diet? Do we become fat from eating sugar? Does
it cause diabetes? Cavities? Does eating a lot of sugar make you look older (the
Perricone Prescription)? Can you become addicted to sugar? Although some would
argue that answering the preceding questions with an unequivocal "yes" would be
perpetuating a myth, many of these
presumptions do hold true. Yet that's not what experts find most
disconcerting.
The type of sugar that experts take issue with is "added" or "free" sugar - the sugar that manufacturers put in our foods to improve the taste. But researchers are quick to point out that this sugar is no worse than natural sugars. "Once in your body, there is absolutely no difference - the body can't tell if you have eaten table sugar or sugar from a fruit. It all gets converted to glucose," says Christopher Gardner, Ph.D., director of nutrition studies at Stanford Center for Research in Disease Prevention. However, some research suggests that high fructose corn syrup (most often used by food manufacturers to create a sweet taste), is stored more easily as fat than sucrose, and may be less filling.
"If people think that it really matters
what type of sugar they're consuming, well - they're missing the point," says
Gardner. "It's not the source of sugar that matters; it's what they're NOT
consuming that's important. If they're eating foods with added sugar (i.e.,
candy, cookies, cakes, chips, soda, etc.) - the healthier foods are being
knocked out." Intake of critical
nutrients is significantly reduced when a person's diet is high in added
sugar. This puts the individual at
higher risk for cancer, osteoporosis, heart disease and other conditions. Worse
yet, experts argue that you can't just take a vitamin to make up for what you're
missing. "Foods such as fruits and vegetables have benefits that we are just
beginning to learn about that can't be replaced by a pill," adds
Gardner.
It's actually surprising to see all the foods that have added sugar. Take a look at the food label on ketchup, applesauce, soups, cereals, baby food, salad dressing or whole wheat bread - even that Slim-Fast shake that's supposed to help you lose weight has almost 9 teaspoons of sugar. Who knows how much of that has been added during processing?
Unfortunately, the food label only lists the total sugar content in a product. It doesn't provide you with the information as to how much, if any, sugar has been added to the foods you eat - so you have to be a bit of a detective.
Here are some basics for minimizing your
sugar intake:
How much added sugar?
First, you need to be able to determine what "10 teaspoons of sugar" or "10 percent added sugar" means. A teaspoon contains about 4 grams of sugar, so 10 teaspoons would put your upper limit at about 40 grams per day. Since a gram of sugar has about 4 calories, this means you are aiming to keep your total calories from added sugar at no more than 160 calories. Using the WHO's recommendation, your added sugar limit would be 50 grams for a 2,000-calorie diet or about 12 teaspoons.
Check the ingredient list
Food labels list ingredients by descending
order of weight. If sugar is one of the first few ingredients listed, this may
be a product you want to limit or avoid. Additionally, look out for sugar's
aliases: sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, confectioner's sugar,
corn sweeteners, dextrose, glucose, fructose, maltose, molasses, honey, brown
sugar, fruit and juice concentrate, invert sugar, cane sugar, raw sugar,
galactose, lactose, levulose, and maple sugar.
Liquid candy
Cut back on sugary soda intake. It provides no nutritional value, and just having 2 sodas per day could add 30 pounds to your weight in a year. Even 100 percent juice is another high-calorie beverage to limit. One cup of juice contains the natural sugar of several pieces of fruit without the fiber or the "fullness factor" of consuming an actual piece of fruit.
Sweet and fat-free
Carefully read labels of low-fat and fat-free foods. Many fat-free foods such as fat-free cookies use sugar to enhance the taste and texture of the product once the fat has been removed. Even seemingly healthful foods like yogurt can also be high in sugar. For example, Stonyfield Farm Nonfat Strawberry Yogurt may be fat-free, but it has 31 grams of sugar for a 6-ounce serving.
Be dense
Choose mostly nutrient-dense foods that provide other nutrients besides sugar or fat. Eat foods that have been minimally processed, such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, low-fat dairy and heart-healthy fats. Try to make sure that sugar is not high on the ingredients list for packaged foods.
Sugar-free or no-added
Try foods that are sugar-free, as long as you're monitoring the fat content. Also, look for "No Added Sugar" and "Without Added Sugar" claims.
A food is allowed to boast this on the label if no sugar or sugar-containing ingredient (for example, fruit juices, applesauce or dried fruit) is added during processing or packing. Pay attention, though, because it can be stated on the package even if the food is not "low-calorie" or "reduced-calorie."

Chances are that if you are watching your sugar intake, you don’t have a tire around your waistline. But in the event that you are sporting this very visible ring around the waist, then for health reasons, you might want to consider this information and act accordingly. If not, you might be facing serious complication from sugar diabetes later.

DEPRESSION HITS ONE IN SIX
AMERICANS,
STUDY FINDS
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sixteen percent of Americans -- more than 30 million people -- will suffer major depression at some point in their lives, costing employers more than $30 billion in lost productivity, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday.
"Major depression is now the No. 1 leading cause of disability in the general population across the world," Kathleen Merikangas of the National Institute of Mental Health told a news conference.
The survey she reported, of more than 9,000 adults across 48 states, suggested that about 13 million Americans, or more than 6 percent, had an episode of major depression in the past year.
Only about half get any kind of treatment, and only half of those get the right treatment, the survey found.
"The impact that we found in our survey is absolutely dramatic. It affects jobs, marriage, parenting," Merikangas said.
Half the patients suffered severe depression, as defined by the American Psychiatric Association, and it lasted an average of four months.
Her team's
study was one of several published in a special issue of the Journal of the
American Medical Association. They found that patients and doctors alike
were failing to recognize depression.
"Many people don't know that they can get
help," Merikangas said. Both drugs and counseling have been shown to help

Depression
becomes less common as people get older and perhaps adjust to their lot in life,
the survey found. "It appears that major
depression is more common in young adults," Merikangas said.
"We found increased rates of depression as well among those who are poor and less-educated," Merikangas added. The numbers may be even higher, she said, as the survey did not include homeless people or those in institutions.
Women, in particular, were vulnerable to depression. "Women who have children, women who are poor, and women who have little social and financial support," she said.
The symptoms of depression range from feelings of hopelessness and loss of appetite to trouble sleeping. "People with depression feel like they are in a black hole from which they can't escape," Merikangas said.
Depression is the leading cause of suicide.
A separate survey by Walter Stewart and colleagues at the AdvancePCS Center for Work and Health in Hunt Valley, Maryland, found the costs of depression affected more than just the patients and their families.
